Last weekend, Mount Markham High School held its prom at Hart's Hill Inn. Prior to the prom, a Grand March was held in the Mount Markham High School Auditorium. There were almost 150 students in attendance and a wonderful evening was had by all.

Mount Markham Team I is this year‘s winner of the Herkimer County Envirothon! Congratulations to Bennett Schoonover, Virginia Culver, Lucas Entwistle, Owen Allen and Abbie Ainslie. The team will represent Herkimer County at the NYS Envirothon at Hobart and William Smith Colleges on May 24 and 25. Excellent work!
Some of our high school and middle school students attended a production of “Dear Evan Hansen” at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse this week. With cooperation through Arts In Education, we were able to provide a priceless theatre experience for our students.

On Thursday, the senior class went to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse! Students spent the sunny day learning about conservation and the various animals. One of the highlights for the students was seeing the new elephant twins!

On Thursday, the Mount Markham Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted thirteen new members. Congratulations to these students as they join this prestigious institution due to their qualities of Scholarship, Character, Service and Leadership:

On Friday, students from Mrs. Moore's Anatomy and Physiology class and some of Mrs. Martin's Forensic Science class got the opportunity to visit MVCC's donor lab! Students were able to get hands-on experience in the donor lab and with skeletal materials under the guidance of Eileen Bush, Professor and Director of Non-Transplant Anatomical Tissue Bank.

Throughout the month of March, Ms. Culver and Mrs. Brower's English 9 classes participated in Poetry March Madness! Each day, students watched spoken word poems and then voted for the poems that they felt best represented poetry elements. Our students had a fantastic time!
On Monday, students from the Family and Consumer Science department put on a luncheon for the Clark Scholarship Foundation. Paige Korosec, Shelby Clark, Reganne Jones, Klarissa Lewosko, Trevor Sweeting and Allen Vanderbeck made a three-course meal. Thank you to these students for putting on such an amazing event and thank you to the Clark Scholarship Foundation for everything you do for our seniors!
The Astronomy and Science Fiction classes have wrapped up their field trips for the year with two successful trips! They went back to Beyond Reality to work on their collaboration and communication skills in a cross-curricular setting. Beyond Reality thanked the group for always being so respectful and excited. The classes then went to Colgate University where they were able to spend time in the Visualization Lab: learning about the formation of the Moon and current astrophysics research related to Mercury, "riding" a roller coaster to view Saturn's rings in great detail, and learning more about the mythology behind some of the constellations in the night sky in our area! Students also received a tour of the greenhouse from Colgate students, were able to plant sunflowers and ask about college life, and toured the Geology Museum where they had the opportunity to hold two meteorites. Thank you to Beyond Reality and Colgate University for providing such positive experiences for our students!

The speech and debate team finished their regular season of tournaments in Rochester at Brighton High School with a second-place team trophy! The tournament recognized students from throughout the Iroquois District of the National Speech and Debate Association.
On Saturday, April 1st, the National Honor Society held its annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the community. Eggs and candy were donated by high school members and they spent days filling the eggs to get ready for the event. Mrs. Pauley and Mrs. Trevisani, NHS advisors, would like to thank all of the members for helping out and the families who braved a little bit of rain to make the morning a success. Also, a big thank you to the HUB for their generous donation of plastic eggs!
Mount Markham Connected Community Schools is holding another food giveaway on April 7 from 1:00 - 6:00 pm at Mount Markham High School! At this giveaway, there will be fun activities set up, so children can play while family members pick up free groceries.
On Thursday, students in Earth Science visited the MOST in Syracuse. It was a great day of problem-solving, collaboration and having fun while learning! Thank you to the MOMMS for helping fund the trip; students were able to watch an IMAX film in the National Grid Exploreadome!
