Mount Markham CSD is pleased to announce that the All-School Musical (grades 7-12) is returning this spring! Under the direction of Ms. Ellen Campion, Ms. Carolyn Goodfellow and Ms. Carrie Nelson, the students will be presenting Frozen Jr. on Thursday, March 30th, Friday, March 31st and Saturday, April 1st. We can't wait to see you there!
Happy New Year! We hope that 2023 is a wonderful year for you and your family!
Knowing that the needs of our students and their families may still be present over the break, we want to make sure that our community knows that, while the school is closed, Connected Community Schools is still working and able to connect with families to meet their needs. Each building will have a site coordinator on-site over the break. Site coordinators are not working on 12/23, 12/26 and 1/2. On-call CCS staff will be available 24/7.
Last week, Mount Markham High School art students attended a workshop day at Mohawk Valley Community College. They took a "Digital Sculpture" workshop in the morning and participated in a "Painting with Light Photography" workshop in the afternoon. Our students had a great time!
Members of the Mount Markham High School SADD wrapped over $500 of Christmas presents to donate to the Gram Lorraine Christmas Clothing Program. Once all the presents were wrapped, the students delivered them to the elementary school and the coordinator, Mrs. Winkler.
Check out some of our students' awesome artwork at Mount Markham High School!
On Tuesday, Mount Markham High School students experienced a mock road course where students utilized a pedal kart and steering wheel while wearing fatal vision goggles. The goggles simulated being under the influence of alcohol or marijuana. Students learned about the effects these drugs can have on vision, coordination and reaction time. There were also floor mats depicting a neighborhood, a sidewalk or a living room, and students were asked to navigate through the mats while wearing the goggles. They were also asked to complete simple tasks such as picking items up and avoiding obstacles.
SADD would like to thank Heather Maley, Prevention Services Coordinator for Catholic Charities/Prevention Council of Herkimer County, for bringing this experience to our students!
Mount Markham High School faculty, staff and students collected 50 pounds of items to be distributed to deployed soldiers and sailors overseas during the holiday months! Along with the items, $125 was collected to help with mailing costs.
Students in Mrs. Brower's Science Fiction class and Ms. Robinson's Astronomy class have been engaging in cross-curricular collaboration over the last few weeks. They started with the Eduprotocol Smart Start of Cardboard Boats, a variation of the Cardboard Arcade Smart Start. This allowed them to start working on their communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills. On Friday, the two classes went to Beyond Reality where they were able to put these skills into action through one of two adventures, either a science-fiction themed adventure or a space station themed adventure. These two classes will continue their cross-curricular collaboration as the year progresses. Thank you to Beyond Reality for welcoming our students and allowing them to collaborate with topics that relate to these classes!

“Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.
On November 18th, Mount Markham High School faculty and staff celebrated the upcoming retirement of Mary Greene with a surprise luncheon. Staff brought in food and homemade treats, including a cake as it was also Mary's birthday! We wish Mary well in her retirement!
On Tuesday, the Mount Markham Senior Class had the opportunity to visit the New York State Museum in Albany! Students had a great day touring the museum, and they had the chance to visit the Observation Deck of the Corning Tower to get a bird's eye view of the city and learn about some of the local landmarks.
Congratulations to Rachel Harris and MacKenzie Roth for an amazing performance at Area All-State on November 19th!
Mr. Mosny's English 10 Honors class went on a tour of Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute as part of a unit where students make observations of art pieces and use those observations to interpret the meaning of the piece. During this trip, students were able to view Thomas Cole's Voyage of Life mural series, which they are using for a class assignment analyzing visual symbolism and a model Regents Task 3 analysis essay.
REMINDER: Mount Markham CSD will be on recess, November 23-27, in celebration of Thanksgiving.
