The PBIS Leadership Team is proud to announce our Mustang of the Month award recipients for the month of May. Congratulations to Nicole Baker, Alexis Day and Beth Wilson!
Our first Mustang of the Month is Nicole Baker, a teacher at Mount Markham Elementary School.
Baker is from Town of Columbia, NY. She graduated from Mohawk Central School and earned her associate’s degree from Herkimer County Community College. Baker spends a lot of time with her parents Bob and Jolene Baker, her sister Sheila, her brother Robert, and her niece Allison.
Nicole Baker’s favorite aspect of being part of the Mount Markham CSD community is the dedication to the education of the children while also making an effort to tie in fun events for them both in school and out. She also loves the willingness from everyone to help others with anything.
Baker believes that her dedication to the children and being kind were big factors in this recognition. “I would say to anyone trying to change anything, remember to be yourself, be honest, caring, and have fun and laugh,” she said. “Try to see the positive things in life even if there are a lot of negatives.”
When she is not at work, Baker enjoys playing with her niece and spending time with her family. She also likes arts, crafts, reading, puzzle books, and spending time outside in the summer.
Our next Mustang of the Month is Alexis Day, a teacher at Mount Markham Middle School.
Alexis Day grew up in West Winfield and went to Mount Markham High School. After graduation, she decided that art is something she wanted to pursue and decided to study fine art in college. Over the years, Day has taught students in Preschool through eighth grade. For Day, art means more than just painting a pretty picture, rather it is a way of looking at the world through a new lense. “It's a therapy, it's a way to connect and bring people together,” she said. “I feel very blessed that I'm able to teach something that I love, and I hope I have this opportunity for many years to come.”
As part of the Mount Markham community, Day says it feels like being home. It is where she grew up and harbor many positive childhood memories.
Alexis Day was always taught to "treat others as you yourself would want to be treated", and she believes that now, more than ever, and thinks it is important to just listen. She also believes that we all have something to say, and we all just want to be heard.
Outside of work, Day enjoys being outside of the house with her family and taking day trips with her husband and son. She also enjoys walks in the park, a day at the beach, and visiting new towns.
Our final Mustang of the Month is Beth Wilson, a teacher at Mount Markham High School.
Wilson is a Mount Markham graduate and has worked here at Mount Markham since 1999. She is married and has three sons and eight grandkids.
Wilson’s favorite part about being a part of the Mount Markham community is interacting with many different staff, students and community members, and being able to help out when she can. She believes that being kind and considerate of others were factors in receiving this recognition.
When she is not at work, Wilson enjoys playing with her grandkids, reading, and sitting on her front porch to watch the birds.
