In a lab experiment, Mount Markham fifth-grade students weighed substances before and after various processes (melting, dissolving or a chemical reaction) had occurred. Students observed and concluded that mass is conserved in these processes, so the mass did not change.

Congratulations to Maura Bednarczyk for receiving a Staff Shout-Out! Your kindness and compassion for others does not go unnoticed.

Staff Shout-Out: Maura Bednarczyk, quote reads: "A student of mine was confused after the long weekend as to which day it was - A or B. He went to the wrong class and didn't realize his mistake until a few minutes after class started. He was very embarrassed and upset. While he was outside my room taking some time to calm down while I taught, Maura stopped by and took time out of her day to help the student feel better. After she made him laugh, he was able to calm down enough to return to class. She didn't need to stop by on her way through, but took the time to do what was best for a student in need. I so appreciated the gesture, as did he! " Photo of Maura Bednarczyk

Knowing that the needs of our students and their families may still be present over the break, we want to make sure that our community knows that, while the school is closed, Connected Community Schools is still working and able to connect with families to meet their needs. Each building will have a site coordinator on-site over the break. Site coordinators are not working on 12/23, 12/26 and 1/2. On-call CCS staff will be available 24/7.

We love to see collaboration between our schools! Students from Mr. Rathbone’s 8th-grade Advanced Technology class made Christmas ornaments and brought them to Mrs. Jones’s kindergarten class. The kindergarten students decorated the ornaments and got to take them home.

The Mount Markham High School Drama Club is excited to present their upcoming performance of "The Play That Goes Wrong" on Friday, December 9th and Saturday, December 10th! Both performances are at 7:00 pm in the Mount Markham High School Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students and $25 for family. “Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.

Staff Shout-Out: Nicolette Burgess, quote reads: ""I am absolutely blown away by the compassion, understanding and excitement I received from my child's fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Burgess, during a parent-teacher conference. I raised a few concerns regarding my child, and Mrs. Burgess took notes and told me she would follow up with my child with these things to make sure he was comfortable at school. My child is excelling in the fifth grade, and I am positive it is from the supportive and caring fifth grade staff. I am looking forward to what else this year has to offer to my child.""
