The PBIS Leadership Team is proud to announce our Mustang of the Month award recipients for the month of March. Congratulations to Lori Engle, Ryan Jones and Amanda Boston!
Our first Mustang of the Month is Lori Engle, a teacher at Mount Markham Elementary School.
A local to the area, Lori Engle grew up in Waterville, NY, and received her education at Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland. Engle has taught at Mount Markham CSD for 31 years.
Lori Engle’s favorite aspect of being a part of the Mount Markham CSD community is the way people help each other in times of need.
Engle not only appreciates that helpful nature as a value of the community, but as a belief that she holds for herself.
“I believe in the value of hard work, and think it is important for people to work together,” Engle said. “I try to help others whenever I can. To improve yourself as a worker, become a part of a committee and find ways to help in your team or building. To improve yourself as a person, find ways to volunteer or help your neighbors and community.”
When she is not at work, Lori Engle is busy as the Governor of the New York - New England District of Optimist International. Engle also enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, volleyball, pickleball, dancing, singing, crafts and cake decorating. Engle has two children, a son who lives in Florida with his wife, and a daughter who lives in the local area with her husband and children.
Our next Mustang of the Month is Ryan Jones, a teacher at Mount Markham Middle School.
Ryan Jones received his education at SUNY Cortland, and worked at Greene Elementary and Edmeston CSD before coming to Mount Markham CSD. Jones has three children; two that currently attend Mount Markham High School and one that studies at SUNY Oswego.
Ryan Jones’s favorite part about the Mount Markham CSD community is watching the children of the community grow into young adults.
Jones holds the values of being a lifelong learner, finding humor in the little things, helping his community and being out in nature, which have helped him both as an individual and as a worker. Many of Jones’s students have noted his positive attitude and commitment to learning.
“Mr. Jones builds a relationship with all of his students and is generally a great teacher,” one student said.
Outside of work, Ryan Jones enjoys hunting, fishing, walking his dogs, selling seeds and plants on Etsy, researching and selling native plants, and spending time with friends and family. Jones also works as a firefighter/paramedic for Bridgewater Fire and Ambulance and as a paramedic for Edwards Ambulance.
Our final Mustang of the Month is Amanda Boston, a teacher at Mount Markham High School.
Originally hailing from Rome, NY, Boston is a local to the area. Amanda Boston received her education at SUNY Geneseo, and worked at Herkimer BOCES, Adirondack CSD, and the Kelberman Center before coming to Mount Markham CSD.
Boston’s favorite aspect of the Mount Markham CSD community is the kind and supportive staff as well as the great students.
Amanda Boston deeply holds the values of kindness, respect and a strong work ethic, and many of Boston’s colleagues have noticed her reflect those values.
“Mrs. Boston goes above and beyond for her students,” one colleague said. “She always has a positive attitude and is willing to help in any way she can.”
When she is not working at the high school, Amanda Boston enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, attending concerts and spending time with her family (her wife, two stepdaughters, three grandchildren, and Italian greyhound).
