An exciting afterschool enrichment opportunity has been taking place for third graders in Mr. Bard and Mrs. Entwistle's classes at Mount Markham Elementary! Happy New Year! We hope that 2023 is a wonderful year for you and your family!
Mount Markham Elementary held numerous bonding events throughout December, using the RCA House System! Earlier this month, students of the same house traveled to a different classroom in the school to do crafts, have a snack and strengthen friendships with other students and staff members in that house. Students made beaded ornaments and paper chains in their house colors. The event was a raving success; many teachers were very impressed with how well the older students modeled good behavior and helped the younger students in their group with their crafts!
Later in December, Mount Markham Elementary held a House Assembly. Our third and fourth-grade chorus performed their winter concert and the whole school enjoyed a holiday sing-along. Congratulations to Isibindi, the House of Courage, for being December's winning house!
Knowing that the needs of our students and their families may still be present over the break, we want to make sure that our community knows that, while the school is closed, Connected Community Schools is still working and able to connect with families to meet their needs. Each building will have a site coordinator on-site over the break. Site coordinators are not working on 12/23, 12/26 and 1/2. On-call CCS staff will be available 24/7.
We love to see collaboration between our schools! Students from Mr. Rathbone’s 8th-grade Advanced Technology class made Christmas ornaments and brought them to Mrs. Jones’s kindergarten class. The kindergarten students decorated the ornaments and got to take them home.
On Thursday, Mr. Hawes and Mrs. Wheelock went to the Mount Markham Elementary fourth-grade classrooms to give a presentation about hygiene. After the presentation, each student received a hygiene goodie bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, a loofah and deodorant.

“Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.
Congratulations to Sarah Crave, Meaghan Weiss, Taylor Allen, Tanya king, Julie Stone, Marissa Winkler & Sheila Jones for being recognized with a Staff Shout-Out for their hard work on the Veterans Day event at the elementary! We appreciate your willingness to go above and beyond.
REMINDER: Mount Markham CSD will be on recess, November 23-27, in celebration of Thanksgiving.
