Mrs. Entwistle & Mr. Bard's third-grade classes combined their knowledge of animal adaptations with coding to simulate an owl's keen eyesight.
The project involved utilizing the light sensor feature of Microbits – pocket-sized programmable computers – to simulate the behavior of an owl's eye. As darkness descended upon the classroom, the LED lights embedded within the Microbits would dynamically expand, mimicking the owl's ability to dilate its pupils in low-light conditions to hunt for their food.
Mrs. Blackwell assisted the students with their programs to help them adjust parameters to ensure a seamless transition between light and dark environments, much like the adaptation observed in owls.

Ms. Capotosto's WINN groups used OSMO Words to help build r-controlled words! Mrs. Blackwell and Ms. Capotosto created a set of OSMO word cards that went along with the day's lesson. Students enjoyed competing against their partners to try and spell the word correctly first.

Before the break, Mrs. Blackwell, Mrs. Brooks, and Mrs. Weiss teamed together to design a digital breakout for second-grade students to complete. Students had to solve four unique winter-themed clues: practicing addition with two-digit numbers and coding concepts.
Last week, Santa stopped by Mount Markham Elementary! Our students had a wonderful time.

Our elementary students are feeling the holiday spirit! Yesterday, our students made ornaments and cards to distribute to the local nursing homes. We are so proud of their hard work!
The Harlem Wizards are coming to town! On Monday, January 22, Mount Markham CSD will host the Harlem Wizards as they play against Mount Markham teachers in the Mount Markham High School Gymnasium. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and the game starts at 6:30 pm.
