germs

Mount Markham 5th graders participated in a lesson on personal hygiene today (January 13) as part of their Character Education class. Mrs. Coleman discussed germs and how they can make you sick if you don’t wash your hands properly. Students watched a video about germs, fun germ facts for kids, and proper handwashing techniques.

After the video, Mrs. Coleman led an activity where she applied fake germs to the

students' hands. She asked them to shake hands with each other and then wash their hands thoroughly, including their palms, the backs of their hands, thumbs, and other areas, for at least 15 seconds. Following this, she used a light to check for any remaining germs, and many students had to wash their hands again.

The key takeaway was to always wash your hands thoroughly—especially after using the bathroom, before eating, after recess, or after coughing.
