Kim and Carrie

The Mount Markham junior class has been fortunate enough to have the dedicated and extraordinary services of Kim Trevisani and Carrie Nelson as prom advisors for the last 25 years. Both starting in September of 1998, the two met at the new teacher orientation when they were approached to take on the junior class advisor role after the two previous advisors had left, and the rest is history.

“We were approached to take the role without ANY idea of what were doing but throughout the years, we have developed it into some amazing proms,” Carrie said.

Kim is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo and started in the Mount Markham district just shortly after graduating. Along with being the junior class advisor, Kim also teaches English, College Psychology and is also the co-advisor for the National Honor Society.

Prior to coming to Mount Markham, Carrie taught at Camden High School, and was an Engineer at General Electric for 10 years before that. She graduated from MVCC and Clarkson University with degrees in Electrical Engineering, and later attended SUNY Oneonta for Secondary Education. Aside from being the junior class advisor, she also teaches math at the High School, works with Drama Club, SADD, All-School Musical and is the MMTA Treasurer.

Kim says that her favorite parts of running the prom for the kids is watching their plans and ideas come to fruition and the kids.  “When they are dressed up and in a different element, they are a pleasure to be around, and we have had countless compliments from the restaurant staffs that we have worked with” she said. Her other favorite part she says has been working alongside Carrie throughout the years.

Carries favorite part is how the community embraced the Grand March as a big event and decorating it to make it look as nice as possible. They have also moved prom off site from the year they first started and have never looked back. “We have had some really beautiful venues and its always exciting to bring the juniors ideas to life!” Carrie said.

Throughout their years of working together, their friendship and chemistry grew which led them to choose to keep working together 25 years later.

“There are some people we have to work with--but I can honestly say that she was one that I chose to work with for 25 years.” Kim said.
